Self-esteem in middle childhood - blog 9

Published by Danielle at 10:52 am under Uncategorized Edit This

The topic that I have chosen for this week is self-esteem in middle childhood. Self-esteem is defined as an individual’s overall and specific positive and negative self-evaluation. After reading this definition I began to realize how crucial self-esteem is to a child’s self image. We wonder why so many children become bullies or get bullied and I think that it is due to their self-esteem. As parents and educators we all should be aware and try to foster positive self-esteem in each and every child that we encounter. Positive self-esteem can be fostered by encouraging children and praising them for jobs well done. In a classroom environment it is easy for children to begin to compare themselves to others but diversity activities can help. The self-esteem that a child develops at a young age can last a lifetime and affects how they view the goals in their life.
