Blog 10 - Peer pressure
I have chosen to talk about peer pressure for this final blog. Peer pressure is defined as the influence of one’s peers to conform to their behavior and attitudes. I don’t think that peer pressure always has to be bad thing. Many adolescents will only look to their peers for the latest movies to watch, bands to listen to, clothes to wear, or even celebrities to like. In this case I gave into peer pressure and only wanted to watch the television shows my friends were watching or buy the same clothes that they bragged about at school. I think that the one thing that saved me from conforming to bad influences was the attention from my mother. I believe that if a parent stays involved in their adolescent’s life their child will know right form wrong and not listen to those peers who are bad influences.

I believe a person’s home environment has a big impact on a person when it comes to making choices. I do think that some good kids make bad choices based on peer pressure, but if the adolescent has been raised in a loving and nurturing home that they will make better choices. Parent involvement and boundries are very important. Also, if the adolescent feels apart of something at school, such as band, choir, or other structed activities that helps the person feel connected and not an outcast.
